Daniels Plaza
Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Utilizing the idea of "collage" as
a guiding design principle, the plaza transforms an existing parking
lot into a student gathering space at the heart of campus. The assemblage
of paving, earthforms, walls and plantings blend the "natural" with
the "man-made" in both organic and geometric patterns. A
stylized rock ledge fountain at the juncture of existing wooded slopes
and the plaza grows in height and water intensity leading into a restful
garden space where students are able to escape the rigors of their
demanding performance schedules.
