GLAXO WELLCOME FORECOURT
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
As winners of a design competition to replace a reflecting pool originally designed
in the early 1970s by master architect Paul Rudolf, our firm approached
the new design with similar simplicity. The new forecourt to the Elion Hitchings
Building improves wayfinding for visitors and creates a more interactive entry
sequence. Bridge-like walkways divide the space into a series of faceted lawn
panels edged by low concrete walls that diminish in height in dialogue with the
tilted planes of grass. A linear promenade and bosque of trees incorporates seating
and overlooks the court. |
